The Universe is Ours - Short Film Synopsis

For this creative assignment, I have decided to do a social realism screenplay for a short film. This short film is going to be focused on two girls. Luna Evans is a 17 year old girl who is bisexual and currently suffering with depression as well as the death of her father. She has a close bond with her younger brother and sister, however her and her mother do not get along well as her mother does not accept her sexuality. Marley Scott is 18 who lost her parents when she was young. She is homeless as her Aunt and Uncle kicked her out for doing drugs. With both girls feeling lost and alone, they end up finding one another on the top of a roof. Watching the sun slowly set, they share their whole life stories together (along with their awesome taste in music) and realise how much that that one person can change your life forever.

The beginning of this film is in a circular narrative, it starts when we see Ofelia dying. After this, we see Ofelia and her mother in the car travelling towards the captain. The Place Beyond The Pines - Scene Analysis

In upstate New York, two men (Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper), and later, their sons (Dane DeHaan, Emory Cohen) must deal with the unforeseen consequences of their actions.  In this clip, cinematography is shown throughout in every different shot. At the start of the clip we see a fairground which is able to set the scene for the audience. In this whole clip, there isn't much camera movement. There are a lot of cuts in between shots. There are also a lot of close ups which helps the audience feel more connected and closer to the character. The colours are also quite bright throughout suggesting that the film is not a horror or a thriller. As well as colour, the high key lighting tells the audience that this is not a scary film, it also emphasises the intensity of the situation when they are in the church. Amy scene analysis

In the first scene, Kapadi uses home footage to show how young and happy Amy was as an adolescent in 1998. We see a clip of her singing happy birthday to one of her best friends. It then skips forward to January 2001 and then six months later we see her in a rehearsal studio in North London. Kapadi again uses old footage that was shot of her in the studio. He uses voiceovers to give context to the home footage clips. He sometimes slows down the clips for it to fit with the voiceovers. This technique creates a more intense atmosphere especially towards the end of the film. Kapadi tends to display the lyrics of Amy’s songs on screen as she is singing, with more home footage playing in the background. The way he displays her lyrics on screen help the audience to understand the meaning of the song and perhaps how Amy was feeling at the moment in her life.
