Sound in Film - Diegetic & Non-diegetic

In this scene, there is a mix of both diegetic and non-diegetic sounds. At the start, it's non-diegetic sound as the music playing has not been produced by anyone or anything within the world of the film.  It also compliments the first scene when they are running out of the house and into the car. The music is quite intense at this point in the film as the characters are panicking. When the characters start talking the music stops which allows the audience to focus on what they are saying. After that scene ends, the music starts again indicating that the other characters in the car are still panicking. However then, there is diegetic and non-diegetic sounds as the music is still playing but we can also hear the sound of the car which is produced by the characters driving as well as them talking. Crimson Peak - Scene Analysis

At the start of the scene, the woman is awakened by her dog barking. Whilst waking up, the camera starts to slowly zoom out which shows us her surroundings and the setting. The shot shows us this film is set in the past by the interior of the house; it looks abandoned and quite gothic. In the background , you can hear noises like howls that creates a creepy atmosphere which is a good way to set the scene. Throughout this scene the lighting is low key which indicates mystery. The only light that is noticeable is the patches of bright light from the candles; they symbolise light in the darkness of life. The low key lighting contributes to the tone of the scene. It adds to the theme of horror as it's hard to see things with darkness around. Also the candles only seem to really light up the woman, this shows that during this scene she is the most important thing that the audience should focus on.  Horror conventions are the main components that make a horror film. Starting with the
